I’m back with another round of film roll test on the LomoChrome Metropolis 35mm film and quite happy with the LomoChrome Metropolis sample photos. All photos are shot in day time with my Contax G1 film camera. After trying shooting LomoChrome for travel portraits, this round I went for a walking in a Japanese garden and took some of the greenery landscapes and see how the 35mm film will look like.
Luckily it was a good weather in the morning, with sufficient sunlight to test out this film. It was raining season in Malaysia and it gets cloudy almost everyday. At first I was quite worried when shooting in gloomy day with this LomoChrome Metropolis film as I might not get the results I wanted, eventually, it ended up getting some nice shots. I am very addicted to getting photos that have the Japanese-look color such as the Fujifilm Superia film stocks, therefore I created a film photography assignments for the weekend and shoot some Japanese vibes.
I find the color are muted for LomoChrome Metropolis and that is the characteristics of the film stocks. Well, I quite like the tone! I’ve never properly shoot any portrait with this film stock so I might give it a try in the next portrait project.
All the photos are shot at ISO400 and at F8-F11 aperture as the sun is getting higher altitude and having bright sunny day at around 10.30am. It was fun though, I was walking in the Japanese Garden for about 3-4 hours looking for some interesting leading lines and spots to take the shots. I always monitor on my shutter speed as my film camera based on the Sunny 16 rules and make sure it doesn’t go over 1/2000 sec shutter speed (the maximum shutter speed for Contax G1) by adjusting the aperture to get proper exposure and not overexposing.
Here are some Sunny 16 rules under bright sun. Probably I should have try shooting at lower ISO, which is 100 or 200 to get different results according to description on the box. Here we go again, some LomoChrome Metropolis samples which you can find and view more in the photo gallery.
Film ISO speed – 400
Shutter 1/500, F16
Shutter 1/1000, F11
Shutter 1/2000, F8
Now let’s reveal about the location that I was shooting. This is one of the Japanese garden in Malaysia which is called ‘Japan Selangor Friendship Garden’ and it is located in Shah Alam, Selangor. It is a great place for a morning or evening walk and a huge place for you to explore. This place is popular for wedding photoshoot and pre-convocation photoshoots among the locals.
As mentioned, LomoChrome Metropolis is suitable for creative portraits, landscape and travel photography. Probably I should get another roll of LomoChrome 35mm film in Malaysia for creative shoots.
Happy shooting films, peeps!
